Vacancy Announcement: Agriculture Specialist – U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa

The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia is currently seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Agriculture Specialist. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to agricultural policy development and trade analysis in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS).

Position Details:

• Position Title: Agriculture Specialist
• Location: Addis Ababa, ET
• Salary: USD $19,728 – USD $43,420 per year

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Food and Agricultural Marketing, Agriculture, Agribusiness, or International Trade.
• Minimum four to five years of relevant work experience in agricultural economics, agricultural policy, commodity trade, and marketing analysis/research.
• Proficiency in English (Level 4 Fluent) and good working knowledge (Level 3) of Arabic, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Kiswahili, or any other African language.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to produce detailed reports on complex agricultural issues.
• Experience in maintaining professional relationships and collaborating with government agencies and industries.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor, analyze, and report on agricultural, marketing, and trade policy developments for assigned agricultural commodities.
• Collaborate with U.S. and African Union government agencies and industries to address trade complaints and ensure compliance with import regulations.
• Administer market development programs to promote agricultural trade and investment.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders to exchange information and address substantive trade and agricultural policy matters.
