Position: Costume Designer

Place of Work: Addis Ababa

Educational Qualification:

• High school diploma; Degree in fashion design or relevant field is an advantage.

Experience and Skills:

• Proven experience as a costume designer or similar role.
• Knowledge of design, sewing, and textiles.
• Understanding of a range of styles and cultural/historical elements.
• Aptitude in research.
• Excellent communication and people skills.
• Creativity and attention to detail.
• Well-organized and reliable.

Key Responsibilities:

• Read scripts/stories and carefully analyze the plot, tone, and period of the story.
• Communicate with the production manager and director to understand requirements and give direction to casts, receiving a formal brief for the project.
• Research fashion history and trends of the relevant time period and location.
• Compile a collection of visual references to draw final designs.
• Assemble the right fit costumes and call for approved casts for fitting.
• Compile each individual costume design into a costume plot.
• Present costume designs to the production manager and director.
• Ensure all final costume presentations are shared with the client and get approved.
• Process payments for purchasing costumes based on the final approved mood board/reference.
• Get approval before the shooting day for purchased costumes with the director.
• Print the shoot list and call sheet for the shoot and follow up with the schedule throughout the shooting.
