Shabelle Bank is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual for the position of Core Banking and System Director. This strategic leadership role involves overseeing the bank’s core banking platform and enterprise application ecosystem to ensure stability, scalability, regulatory compliance, and alignment with business and digital transformation goals.

Position: Core Banking and System Director (External)

Purpose of the Role:

The Core Banking and Systems Director is responsible for the strategic planning, operation, and continuous improvement of the bank’s core banking platform and enterprise application ecosystem. This role ensures system stability, scalability, regulatory compliance, and alignment with business and digital transformation goals. As a senior technology leader, the Director will manage critical system integrations, application development, vendor relationships, and contribute to the overall banking technology roadmap.

Key Responsibilities:

Define and execute the roadmap for core banking systems (e.g., Temenos, Finacle, Flexcube), ensuring stability, scalability, and high availability.
Drive modernization and upgrades of legacy systems to support real-time processing, digital banking, and evolving customer needs.
Oversee the lifecycle of enterprise banking applications, including onboarding, maintenance, upgrades, and sunsetting.
Lead the API strategy for integration between core systems and digital platforms (mobile, internet banking, agency, USSD).
Establish application governance practices including change management, version control, and audit readiness.
Collaborate with Information Security to embed cybersecurity protocols into core banking and critical systems.
Lead implementation of mission-critical banking system projects (e.g., core banking migration, digital channel rollouts).
Apply agile, DevOps, or hybrid methodologies to ensure timely, cost-effective, and risk-mitigated project delivery.
Track KPIs and reporting for all system initiatives.
Build, lead, and retain a high-performing application support and core banking technology team.
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
Provide mentorship, skill development, and succession planning within the technical organization.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline or certificate.
MBA or equivalent business education is a strong advantage.
Minimum 10 years of experience in enterprise IT roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position in core banking or financial services.
Proven track record in managing core banking systems and enterprise banking applications.

Required Skill: HRIS and Technology (likely implying proficiency with HR Information Systems and general technology acumen).
