Position: Risk and Compliance Officer
Job Summary
The Risk and Compliance Officer is responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating institutional risks while ensuring full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, and regulatory directives. The role supports sound governance, protects organizational assets, and strengthens internal control systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Risk Management
- Develop and maintain the institutionβs Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework.
- Identify, analyze, and evaluate operational, credit, liquidity, market, fraud, legal, and reputational risks.
- Prepare and update risk registers and heat maps.
- Conduct risk assessments across departments and products.
- Recommend mitigation strategies and monitor implementation.
- Track Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and emerging risks.
- Report risk exposures and trends to senior management and the Board/Risk Committee.
2. Compliance Management
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (Central Bank directives, AML/CFT regulations, financial laws, etc.).
- Monitor adherence to internal policies and procedures.
- Review and update policies in line with regulatory changes.
- Coordinate regulatory reporting and inspections.
- Conduct compliance reviews and thematic audits.
- Track compliance breaches and corrective actions.
3. Governance & Internal Controls
- Strengthen internal control frameworks.
- Support Board Committees (Risk, Audit, Compliance).
- Coordinate with Internal and External Auditors.
- Follow up on audit findings and regulatory observations.
4. Regulatory & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as focal point for regulators and supervisory bodies.
- Coordinate onsite and offsite examinations.
- Ensure timely submission of statutory and regulatory reports.
- Monitor regulatory developments and assess institutional impact.
5. Training & Advisory Role
- Provide risk and compliance training to staff.
- Promote a risk-aware culture.
- Advise management on new products and branch expansion from a risk perspective.
6. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare periodic risk and compliance reports.
- Maintain dashboards and documentation.
- Develop compliance manuals and risk policies.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelorβs Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Law, or related fields.
- Masterβs Degree is an advantage.
Experience Requirements
- 4β6 years of experience in risk management, compliance, internal audit, or financial control.
- Experience in banking or microfinance is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and supervisory authorities.
- Proven record of closing audit/compliance findings.
Professional Certifications (Preferred)
- CRMA, CIA, ACCA, CPA, CFE
- FRM or PRM
- Compliance/AML Certifications
