Internship Vacancy Announcement: United Nations ECA

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is committed to promoting diversity, gender equality, and inclusion. We are currently seeking motivated interns to join our teams in Addis Ababa for the 2026 session. These positions offer a unique opportunity to engage with the UN’s developmental agenda while supporting inclusive recruitment and analytical practices.


Open Internship Positions

1. ACS/ Intern Statistics

  • Role Summary: Support the statistical work of the ECA, contributing to data collection and organizational goals while gaining exposure to the UN Charter’s ideals.
  • Eligibility:
    • Enrolled in a Graduate programme (Master’s or higher), OR
    • In the final year of a Bachelor’s degree, OR
    • A recent graduate (must start the internship within one year of graduation).
  • Requirements: Computer literacy in standard software, a keen interest in the UN’s work, and the ability to interact successfully in a multicultural environment.
  • Experience: Professional work experience is not required.

2. ACS/ Data Analysis

  • Role Summary: Focus on quantitative datasets, data cleaning, and applied research to support the ECA’s analytical summaries and method documentation.
  • Eligibility:
    • Enrolled in/completed a Graduate or Bachelor’s degree.
    • Enrolment in a Ph.D. or Master’s in a development-related field is strongly desirable.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Familiarity with statistical tools, specifically R or Python.
    • Experience with quantitative datasets (cross-sectional, time-series, or panel data).
    • Skills in data visualization, dashboarding, and data cleaning/validation.

  • Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
  • Deadline: May 1, 2026 (at 11:59 p.m. New York time).
  • Remuneration: UN Internships are non-remunerated (unpaid). All costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
  • Visa: Successful candidates are responsible for obtaining necessary work authorizations/visas if they are not citizens or residents of Ethiopia.
