External Vacancy Announcement: British Embassy, Addis Ababa

The British Embassy in Addis Ababa is seeking highly competent and resilient professionals to join its team. These roles offer the opportunity to work within a dynamic, multicultural environment contributing to the UK’s diplomatic and developmental objectives in Ethiopia and the wider region.


Open Positions

1. Senior Programme Manager

  • Role Summary: Lead and deliver complex programs within access-constrained and Fragile and Conflict-Affected States (FCAS) contexts. You will ensure effective financial and risk management while building team capability.
  • Essential Requirements:
    • Strong understanding of FCDO Programme and Project Management (PPM) processes (including PrOF).
    • Proven experience in managing multiple concurrent projects and implementing partners.
    • Expert proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Desirable: Proficiency in Arabic, experience working in/on Sudan, and professional accreditations (PRINCE2, APM, or PMI).
  • Salary: USD 2,198.28 (Gross base salary).

2. Deputy Country Director (SEO) – Dept. for Business and Trade

  • Role Summary: Support businesses in winning commercial opportunities and manage high-level client relationships. This role requires a “can-do” attitude to navigate challenges in the investment and trade landscape.
  • Essential Requirements:
    • Postgraduate or undergraduate degree with relevant professional qualifications.
    • Experience in the private sector, investment promotion agencies, or professional services firms.
    • Proven track record in leadership and cross-team collaboration.
    • Fluency in English and Amharic.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of the UK and Ethiopian business environments, experience in deal brokering, and budget management.
  • Salary: USD 2,198.28 (Gross base salary).
