Flagship Youth Leadership Program: African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AU-YVC)

The African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AU-YVC), established in 2010, is a premier continental initiative that recruits, trains, and deploys young African professionals to serve as professional volunteers across the 55 AU Member States. This 12-month program is designed to champion AU Agenda 2063 – ‘The Africa We Want’ by positioning youth as central actors in the continent’s development.


Position: Youth Volunteer (AU-YVC)

  • Duration: 12 Months
  • Total Openings: 50
  • Mission: Share skills, knowledge, and creativity to build an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. Citizenship: Citizen of an AU Member State (living on the continent or in the Diaspora).
  2. Age: 18 – 35 years (must be under 35 upon completion of the 12-month service).
  3. Education: Post-secondary certified qualification (TVET, Bachelor’s, Master’s, etc.).
  4. Availability: Must be available in 2026/27 for the full 12-month duration.
  5. Mobility: Willing to live and work in a different AU Member State.
  6. Languages: Proficient in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, or Spanish).
  7. Experience: Minimum one-year verifiable volunteering experience AND one-year professional work experience.

Required Documents for Application

  • Professional CV: Updated and no longer than 3 pages.
  • Identification: Bio page of your passport or your National ID.
  • Education: Copy of your highest completed qualification (Certificates only; no transcripts).
  • Recommendation: A letter (not older than 2 years) attesting to your leadership qualities.
  • Cover Letter: Must specifically address:
    • Why you want to become an AU Youth Volunteer.
    • What makes you the best candidate for AU-YVC.
    • What specific skills you are bringing to the program and host organization.
