Backend Engineer

Department: Smart Mobility

📍 Addis Ababa | 💼 Full-Time

Role Overview

You will design, build, and operate production-grade backend services for Kifiya’s AI-first financial infrastructure. This role focuses on distributed systems, data modeling, and security-by-design within a high-availability fintech environment.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture: Build modular, fault-tolerant, horizontally scalable distributed services.
API & Lifecycle: Own RESTful/event-driven APIs, including SLO definition and production monitoring.
Data: Design scalable relational/non-relational models; manage live schema migrations.
Reliability: Engineer for high throughput/low latency; implement circuit breakers, caching, and rate limiting.
Security & AI: Enforce encryption and RBAC; integrate backend services with AI model inference and scoring.
DevOps: Work with cloud-native orchestration and deployment automation.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s in CS, Software Engineering, or related technical field.
Experience: 3–7 years of production backend experience.
Core Strengths: Distributed systems, API development, and cloud-native infrastructure.
Preferred: Experience with financial systems, regulated environments, and Agile delivery.
Bonus: Advanced certifications in cloud, distributed systems, or cybersecurity.
