The African Union (AU), a unique Pan-African continental body headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is mandated to spearhead Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion, and cooperation among African peoples and states.
In line with its mandate and capacity-building efforts, the African Union Commission (AUC) invites applications from qualified citizens of AU Member States for its Internship Program.

Purpose of the Internship
The African Union Internship Program provides young African professionals and students with an opportunity to complement their academic knowledge with hands-on professional experience within the AU.
The program:
- Exposes interns to AU policies, programs, and operations
- Strengthens personal and professional skills
- Promotes intercultural learning and Pan-African values
- Serves as a grooming platform for future African leaders
Internships are full-time engagements designed for candidates with strong interest in African integration and development.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be citizens of an AU Member State
- Be actively enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree, OR
- Have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field
- Be no more than 32 years old at the time of selection
- Be fluent in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese)
- Demonstrate high moral conduct and integrity
- Have no serious criminal record (excluding minor traffic offenses)
- Prior work experience is not required
Required Skills
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Good knowledge of email and internet applications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally
- Knowledge of an additional AU working language is an advantage
(French, English, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, or Kiswahili)

Terms and Conditions
- The internship is unpaid
- Interns are responsible for:
- Travel costs
- Accommodation and living expenses
- Medical and insurance coverage
- Internship duration: 3 months, renewable once only
- AU will assist with visa facilitation where possible
- No travel or medical evacuation expenses will be covered by AU
