This position is a Locally Engaged Staff (LES) role under the Terms and Conditions for locally engaged employees in Ethiopia.
🧾 Job Summary
The Political-Economic Officer will conduct research, provide analysis, and deliver foreign policy advice related to political and economic developments in Sudan.
The officer will support the Political-Economic team covering Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Sudan, contributing to diplomatic analysis, policy recommendations, and program activities.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
- Provide policy advice and recommendations on foreign policy issues
- Conduct research and analysis on political and economic developments related to Sudan
- Draft reports, briefing notes, presentations, and communication materials
- Support the planning and implementation of advocacy initiatives and diplomacy programs
- Organize official visits, events, and meetings
- Maintain professional networks with government officials, NGOs, academics, and international organizations
- Contribute to the development and implementation of communication and social media strategies
- Monitor regional developments that may impact Canada’s diplomatic programs
🎓 Educational Requirement
Applicants must have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields:
- Political Science
- International Relations
- Economics
- Business
- Public Policy
OR
- Equivalent education with minimum 2 years of relevant experience in political affairs
💼 Work Experience
Applicants must have:
- 3 years cumulative experience in one of the following sectors:
- Diplomatic missions
- Government institutions
- International organizations
- Academia or think tanks
- Civil society organizations
- Private sector or media
AND
- 2 years of recent experience producing political analysis and advisory reports.
🌐 Language Requirements
- Advanced proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension)
⭐ Asset Qualifications (Preferred)
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Advanced Arabic language proficiency
- Master’s degree
- Knowledge of Canadian foreign policy
- Intermediate or higher level French
