Mebratu Abere Coffee Export is an enterprise in Ethiopia’s green coffee export sector, widely recognized for its high-volume processing capabilities and premium grade washed and unwashed coffee distributions. To fortify its international transaction accounting, trade compliance, and multi-currency ledger management, the company is immediately recruiting a high-caliber Senior Accountant to join its central finance division in Addis Ababa.
Core Accountability Blueprint
The Senior Accountant oversees the financial lifecycle of international trade operations, managing trade instruments, inventory in transit, and local tax compliance.
1. Export-Import Financial Architecture
- Incoterms Application: Apply global commercial trade rules (such as FOB, CIF, CFR) to accurately determine shifting financial responsibilities, freight liabilities, insurance limits, and points of ownership transfer.
- Transit Inventory Recognition: Track and record international “goods in transit” pipelines, ensuring proper cut-off periods and recognition of inventory ownership within corporate financial records.
- Accrual Management: Formulate accurate monthly accounting entries for transit inventory, prepaid ocean/air freight, warehousing, and outstanding customs clearances.
- Supplier Intake Monitoring: Reconcile supplier Goods Received Notes (GRN) for domestic coffee cherries and parchment deliveries against contract purchase orders.
2. Fiscal Compliance & Corporate Ledger Management
- Peachtree System Administration: Systematically code, batch, and post all cash, bank, and credit transactions using Peachtree Accounting Software (Sage 50).
- Statutory Tax Frameworks: Oversee the calculation, optimization, and timely reporting of monthly statutory obligations to the Ministry of Revenues, including Value Added Tax (VAT), withholding taxes (WHT), and regional income declarations.
- Export Exemptions: Manage specialized VAT/GST accounting on raw materials imports, maintaining zero-rated export documentation required to secure state tax exemptions and customs refunds.
3. Treasury & Financial Reporting Cycles
- Dual Reconciliations: Perform daily balancing of incoming cash receipts against cash sales reports and bank deposits. Cross-examine monthly ledger balances against bank statements to isolate and document variances.
- Financial Statement Compositions: Draft and assemble precise Balance Sheets, Income Statements, and Cash Flow statements that accurately capture international cash-flows and currency fluctuations.
- Closing Protocols: Lead monthly and year-end closing processes under tight corporate group presentation deadlines.
Applicant Profile & Requirement Metrics
- Educational Background: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related commercial business domain from an accredited university. Holding or pursuing professional certifications (such as ACCA or CPA) is highly advantageous.
- Sector-Specific Experience: Proven experience operating within an Import/Export company is mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate a comprehensive background handling international shipping documentation, bank letters of credit (L/C), and trade reconciliations.
- Technical Software Stack: Proficient with Peachtree (Sage 50) or advanced Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial modules, combined with intermediate to advanced capabilities in MS Excel.
- Core Technical Knowledge: Deep working familiarity with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), local tax codes, and international trade logistics.
Application Submission Protocol
Eligible professionals who meet the criteria should compile a tailored application cover letter and an updated resume/CV highlighting their experience within the export sector into a single digital document package.
