Call for Application for 400 Postgraduate Scholarships

Overview:

The Organisation of Southern Cooperation (OSC), in collaboration with the International Cooperation Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB), is offering 400 postgraduate scholarships to students from OSC Member States. This initiative aims to promote international academic mobility and South-South cooperation to facilitate education and foster agents of change.

Timeline:

  • Online application period: May 9 – June 17, 2024.
  • Results announcement: September 25, 2024.
  • Postgraduate programs start: 2025 (according to host university’s academic calendar).
  • Duration: Up to 24 months for Master’s programs and up to 48 months for Doctoral programs.

Eligibility:

  • Interested individuals from any country with diplomatic relations with Brazil.
  • Brazilian citizens are not eligible.
  • Applicants from OSC Founding and Member States are encouraged to apply, especially those in emergency situations.
  • Must be in good physical and mental health.

Benefits:

  • Exemption from enrollment fees, tuition, and academic fees.
  • Monthly scholarships (stipends) provided.
  • Funding for airfare, visa processing, international medical insurance, and personal expenses for selected candidates from OSC Founding and Member States.

Application Elements:

  • National ID.
  • Application submitted in Portuguese, English, Spanish, or French.
  • Diploma or certificate of completion from previous degree program.
  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • Two essays for each chosen course:
  1. Academic expectations, interests, and career plans (max 1000 words).
  2. Proposed central theme and research problem (max 4000 words).

Application Process:

  1. Submit online application with required documents by June 17, 2024.
  2. Applications screened for completeness.
  3. Shortlisted applications sent to chosen universities for evaluation.
  4. Final selection based on point system.
  5. Selected candidates notified by September 25, 2024.

Responsibilities of Selected Candidates:

  • Sign a scholarship acceptance contract.
  • Obtain a valid student visa.
  • Purchase international medical insurance.
  • Follow Brazilian immigration regulations, academic standards, and university regulations.
  • Demonstrate intermediate proficiency in Portuguese.
  • Return to country of origin after completing studies.
