We are currently seeking passionate and dedicated individuals for the following roles:


1. Life Skill Trainer – Adama

I. JOB SUMMARY:

This role supports the “Promoting dignity and greater equality in the Ethiopian Garment Sector” project, funded by GIZ. The project aims to establish effective workplace mechanisms to address sexual harassment, exploitation, and abuse, and empower female garment workers in Adama Industrial Park to confidently report incidents without fear of negative consequences. It also fosters solidarity and leadership among female workers.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Implement Buna tetu project initiatives (30%): Establish and lead worker’s cafés, collaborate on target selection, cascade training, deliver gender and male engagement training to male relatives and stakeholders, establish and facilitate EKATA groups, organize VSLA groups, track progress, and ensure accessibility of all services, including medical and legal counseling.
  • Ensure the Sustainability of Buna tetu Project Initiatives (30%): Support EKATA groups to form cooperative associations, establish an advisory committee, and support small business activities for sustainability.
  • Ensure workplace mechanisms for Sexual Harassment, Exploitation and Abuse are created (20%): Facilitate PSHEA policy endorsement and implementation, work with company focal persons, establish and train Anti-harassment committees, conduct regular meetings with the Joint Implementation Team, monitor and record cases, prepare and deliver training on gender, GBV, and PSHEA, conduct pre/post-training assessments, and prepare training reports.
  • Gender equity and diversity related responsibilities (10%): Support existing and upcoming GED initiatives, promote gender equality, and ensure sex-disaggregated reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (10%): Facilitate project activities with stakeholders and collaborate for project strengthening and sustainability.

III. PROBLEM SOLVING:

This position requires interpolative skills to choose effective strategies, analyze variable situations, define problems, and develop alternative solutions.

V. QUALIFICATIONS (KNOW HOW):

  • Education/Training (Required): Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Gender, Teaching, or other related social science fields.
  • Experience (Required): 2-5 years of related work experience.
  • Experience (Desired): Experience in facilitating training on soft skills, gender, GBV, and PSHEA.
  • Technical Skills (Required): Native fluency in Afan Oromo, effective training and communication skills, firm belief in teamwork and gender equality, conceptual understanding of participatory approach and sustainable development.
  • Competencies: Respect, accountability, courage, excellence, stress management, team building, interpersonal skills, coaching, problem-solving, planning, and organizing.

VI. CONTACTS/KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Expected to establish open relationships with the community, government counterparts, community-based organizations, and project staff.

VII. WORKING CONDITIONS:

The duty station is Adama City, Oromia region. The role strongly requires providing training and follow-up with garment workers during off-working hours (nights and weekends).

VIII. Duration of Work: 1 year.

2. Life Skill Trainer – Hawassa

I. JOB SUMMARY:

This role supports the “Promoting dignity and greater equality in the Ethiopian Garment Sector” project, funded by GIZ.   • Provide training on Gender, GBV and Prevention of Workplace sexual Harassment Exploitation and Abuse (30%): Prepare training materials, deliver training on gender, GBV, and PSHEA for company workers, conduct pre/post-training assessments, follow up on improved practices, and prepare training reports.
  • Ensure workplace mechanisms that can respond to Sexual Harassment, Exploitation and Abuse are created (30%): Facilitate PSHEA policy endorsement and implementation, work closely with company focal persons, establish and train Anti-harassment committees, conduct regular meetings with the Joint Implementation Team, and monitor and record cases.

3. Gender Officer – Debre Tabor

I. JOB SUMMARY:

The Gender Officer for the Seize Water project in Debre Tabor will lead the project’s efforts towards quality and inclusion through capacity building, strategy development, and advocacy. You will be responsible for building the capacity of government partners and the community to understand and apply gender and other empowerment approaches, tools, and best practices. This will involve hands-on planning and facilitation of training workshops, coaching, mentoring, and influencing change through strong interpersonal and communication skills. You will report directly to the Sr. Project Manager at the Amhara field office and collaborate with other staff to ensure program quality and impact.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Capacity Building and Technical Assistance (40%): Build staff and key partners’ capacity on gender and community service-focused program quality. Conduct capacity assessments and develop plans. Lead customer satisfaction forum facilitation. Participate in material development and lead trainings on gender, life skills, and community service. Develop and implement follow-up coaching plans. Work with government structures to facilitate gender activities and monitoring. Design community mobilization strategies and document/share lessons learned.
  • Learning, Monitoring and Sharing Evidence (40%): Disseminate information on project accomplishments, organize and participate in supportive supervisions and cross-visits. Showcase the impact of institutional system strengthening. Support efforts to measure impact in light of gender and inclusion issues. Document lessons learned, best practices, and success stories.
  • Networking and Representation (15%): Explore and participate in networks, gender, and community service task forces. Support the documentation and use of project learning for evidence-based policy influence. Represent projects and CARE on relevant platforms.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned (5%).

  • Education/Training (Required): BSc/A in relevant disciplines (Social Science, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Rural Development, or other related studies).
  • Education/Training (Desired): Professional training in gender.
  • Experience (Required): 3-5 years of work experience in developmental related areas, adult learning and training of trainers, methodologies, practical experience in women’s rights/livelihoods programming, gender analysis, gender transformative tools, training, and mainstreaming.
  • Experience (Desired): NGO experience.
  • Technical Skills (Required): Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, transparent and participatory management; sensitivity to different aspects of diversity and HIV/AIDS; strong interpersonal and communication skills; training/facilitation skills; strong writing skills (for reports); proficiency in oral and written English; computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, etc.
  • Technical Skills (Desired): Project Design, Monitoring and Evaluation; Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills; Action learning/research methodologies.
  • Competencies: Coaching, initiating action, communicating with impact, innovation, planning and organizing, building partnership and commitment, facilitating change, adaptability, and contributing to team success.

VI. CONTACTS/KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Expected to build partnering/service provision relationships with project managers, grassroots staff, project officers, and partners. Will work closely with the regional Gender Officer and Project Managers.

VII. LIVING CONDITIONS AND LEVEL OF TRAVEL REQUIRED:

This position is based in Debre Tabor with 80% travel to the target woredas and communities.
