Position: Senior Grants Manager

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

🔹 Job Overview

The Senior Grants Manager will contribute to overall grants management at IRC Ethiopia, supervising grants team members within their portfolio and overseeing the full grants lifecycle—from proposal development to reporting and compliance. The position reports to the Grants Coordinator and requires collaboration with program, finance, and operations teams. Occasional trips to field sites may be needed.


🔹 Major Responsibilities

Proposals

  • Lead and coordinate proposal development, including design meetings, budget preparation, and submission.
  • Ensure proposals, amendments, and budgets are reviewed, accurate, and donor compliant.
  • Coordinate budget narratives and proposal writing with program, finance, and grants teams.

Reporting

  • Oversee quality and timely donor reporting.
  • Ensure reports are coherent, accurate, and compliant with IRC and donor standards.
  • Monitor burn rates and program implementation progress.

Compliance

  • Review donor agreements, ensure compliance with IRC and donor regulations, and update Grant Summary Sheets.
  • Obtain guidance from HQ or donors on compliance as needed.

Communication & Information Management

  • Act as focal point for donor communications.
  • Lead donor visits and address monitoring feedback.
  • Ensure timely donor updates on security and context changes.

Team Management & Capacity Building

  • Lead and mentor the assigned grants team.
  • Provide training on topics like donor regulations, proposal development, and financial management tools.

Administrative & Other Duties

  • Keep IRC’s information systems (OTIS, Box) updated for all grants.
  • Support the Grants Coordinator as needed.

Safeguarding

  • Uphold and promote IRC’s safeguarding standards and values in the workplace and programs.

🔹 Requirements

📚 Education:

  • BA degree required; Master’s degree in International Affairs, Social Sciences, Accounting, Economics, or STEM strongly preferred.

🛠️ Experience & Skills:

  • 4+ years’ experience for degree holders or 3+ years for master’s holders.
  • At least 1 year of managerial experience.
  • Experience in program and/or grants management, proposal development, and donor reporting.
  • Prior knowledge of donor regulations (ECHO, EU, USAID, UNHCR, UNICEF, etc.) preferred.
  • Advanced MS Excel and math skills (skills will be tested).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and analytical abilities.
  • Experience mentoring staff and managing competing priorities under pressure.
