
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI), established in 1970, is a biomedical research institute focused on developing tools for the prevention, control, and treatment of mycobacterium and other public health diseases. We conduct applied and basic biomedical research and provide training.

1. Junior Researcher – Server Administrator (High-Performance Computing & Malaria Research Infrastructure)
This role is within the Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases Research Division (MNTD), which leverages high-performance computing (HPC) for large-scale genomic, molecular, and bioinformatics data processing in malaria research.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in setting up, configuring, and maintaining HPC systems (servers, storage, networking).
- Support installation and management of Linux/Unix systems and job schedulers (SLURM, PBS).
- Help automate basic system tasks using scripting (Python or Bash).
- Monitor system performance and assist with updates, security, and troubleshooting.
- Assist in configuring databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and support data migration.
- Follow data security and backup procedures.
- Collaborate with team members and provide user support and basic documentation.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or Data Science.
- Knowledge: Basic understanding of HPC environments and Linux/Unix systems.
- Understanding: Theoretical and basic practical understanding in scripting (Python or Bash), database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB), and job schedulers (SLURM, PBS).

2. Postdoctoral Researcher – Entomologist
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Conduct and lead field entomology activities.
- Plan, set up, and undertake laboratory experiments independently.
- Review state-of-the-art research protocols and recommend experimental plans.
- Design, conduct, and interpret scientific research.
- Monitor experiments for adherence to SOPs and data quality.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data.
- Provide technical support to other researchers.
- Prepare articles/abstracts for publication/presentation.
- Write reports, reviews, and summaries.
- Write scientific manuscripts and technical reports for reputable journals.
- Keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments.
- Supervise staff and other laboratory users (e.g., graduate students).
- Liaise with national and international project partners.
- Assist PI in manuscript preparation and publication follow-up.
- Assist PI in writing research proposals/grant applications.
- Perform other duties as required by the PI.
Qualification and Experience:
- Education: PhD in Parasitology, Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Entomology, or related fields.
- Experience: Two years and above work experience.
- Publications: Minimum of 6 publication points.
Desired Skills and Experiences:
- Experience in mosquito collection methods and sensitivity tests.
- Experience in laboratory and research skills including immunologic, molecular, and genomic techniques, isolation and analysis of DNA, RNA, or protein samples.

3. Researcher II – Public Health
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop study protocols and oversee ethical approval.
- Design qualitative data collection instruments for REDCap.
- Identify and engage community stakeholders for project ownership.
- Develop stakeholder engagement strategies, ensuring informed consent.
- Establish and maintain positive community rapport.
- Organize and train qualitative research team, providing daily supervision.
- Monitor real-time qualitative data quality, addressing errors promptly.
- Oversee transcription and translation, ensuring accuracy.
- Prepare and submit periodic progress reports.
- Conduct qualitative coding and data analysis using appropriate software.
- Draft and submit manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
- Ensure timely and accurate entry of qualitative data into REDCap.
- Train junior researchers on qualitative coding and data analysis software.
- Identify and procure necessary materials and tools.
- Serve as liaison between data collectors, project coordinator, and PI.
- Perform additional duties as delegated by the PI.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: PhD degree in Public Health or other Social Science fields.
- Experience: At least 2 years and above relevant professional experience in qualitative research on malaria research projects after PhD and 6 publication points OR worked for 2 years as Researcher I and 3 publication points.
- Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation of projects and/or has MSc degree in Health Monitoring and Evaluation.

5. Associate Researcher I – Biostatistician
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze data using statistical methods (longitudinal analysis, survival analysis, mixed-effect modeling, logistic regression, etc.).
- Stay current with methodological/conceptual advancements in biomedical research.
- Prepare statistical data for reports.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary research teams.
- Write and publish scientific articles or present findings.
- Assist PIs in manuscript preparation and publication follow-up.
- Design project plans, timelines, technical objectives, and select study methodologies.
- Prepare detailed analysis plans and write descriptions of analyses and findings.
- Monitor clinical trials/experiments for protocol adherence and data quality.
- Collaborate on epidemiological research study design.
- Review medical research protocols and recommend appropriate statistical analyses.
- Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and training.
- Share knowledge and train team members in statistical methods and data management.

Required Qualifications:
- Education: MSc in Biostatistics, Public Health Epidemiology, or related field.
- Experience: 5+ years of work experience.
- Understanding: Strong understanding of epidemiological study design.
- Software Proficiency: Statistical software R, Python, or Stata.
- Programming: Strong programming skills in languages like Python or R.
- Experience discussing biostatistical issues with clinical/health personnel.
- Publications: Required and need to be listed in the resume/CVs.
- At least 6 public health-related articles published in reputable peer-reviewed journals, with at least three as first author.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Technical skills to apply methodologies from biomedical research literature.
- Ability to work with multiple epidemiological data systems and teams.
- Experience collaborating with research institutes, academia, and the health sector.
- Proven ability to produce policy-relevant findings from systematic reviews and analyses.

This role is within the Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases Research Directorate.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Malaria microscopy: diagnosis, species identification, and determination of load.
- Prepare specimens, view under microscopy, and take notes/photograph images.
- Work closely with laboratory and data management team.
- Execute other responsibilities from the Malaria Research Team.
Qualifications:
- Education: BSc Degree in Laboratory Sciences/Technology from a recognized institution. Experience in malaria microscopy is an advantage.
