Senior Procurement Engineer

Position Overview/Scope of Role:

As a Senior Procurement Engineer, you will be responsible for securing the best quality materials at the optimal price within target deadlines, and for registering new subcontractors/suppliers as needed. You will prepare tenders, float them to suppliers/subcontractors, and thoroughly investigate the market for MEP materials based on specifications and performance requirements. You will analyze technical and commercial data from bidders, reiterate with them, and recommend the most desirable options using tools like bid comparison tables and Bills of Quantities (BOQs).

Top Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently handle all procurement activities related to HVAC, Plumbing, Drainage, Fire Fighting, Electrical, ELV Systems, ICT materials, electronics, etc.
  • Procure equipment, materials & systems that comply with project quality and specification requirements.
  • Procure materials and subcontract promptly within approved budgeted cost.
  • Compare vendors’ offers financially.
  • Check all ex-stock availability in central and sub-stores before ordering.
  • Ensure timely delivery of equipment, materials & systems to support site installation works as per the approved work program.
  • Ensure all procurement processes comply with management-approved procedures and policies concerning time, cost, and quality.
  • Prepare documentation for internal processes as per ISO Standards.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Maintain company reputation & credibility through fair dealings and prompt payment.
  • Must be familiar with IEC, DIN (VDE), NEC, UMC, and UPC with the ability to render services, design, and estimate per these codes.
  • Negotiate with subcontractors technically to ensure compliance of their offers with all project requirements as mentioned in the RFQ.
  • Negotiate with suppliers/subcontractors to reach the optimum price with the required specifications.
  • Coordinate with the site for on-time delivery.
  • Follow up on the approval of submitted materials.
  • Keep track of all supplier’s/subcontractor’s performance.
  • Visit sites, suppliers, and factories regularly and when needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience, of which 2 years must be in the field of materials and services procurement for construction contracts.
  • Prior on-site experience is required.
  • Ability to deal effectively with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Ability to exercise budgetary control of local purchase systems.
  • Strong Communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
