Good Neighbors Ethiopia (GNE) has a 27-year history of assisting Ethiopia’s most vulnerable populations across multiple regions and city administrations.

GNE is currently seeking a qualified Field Engineer to supervise and control construction activities in the project area.


Field Engineer

  • Reports To: Senior Engineer
  • Location: Hana town, Selamago District, South Omo Zone, Southern Ethiopia Region.
  • Term of Employment: Fixed contract for six (6) months till January 31, 2026.

Summary:

The overall objective of the Field Engineer is to supervise and control the construction activities in the project area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of all construction work in the project area.
  • Ensure all necessary measurements and control the quality of work.
  • Actively participate in all engineering decisions required for the successful and timely implementation of Construction Contracts in consultation with the senior engineer.
  • Comprehensive supervision of project implementation activities carried out by the contractor to ensure complete compliance with drawings, technical specifications, and contract stipulations.
  • Prepare and submit brief Weekly & monthly progress reports with photographs.
  • Review and check the construction contracts, and approve materials.
  • Submit quality reports as scheduled (weekly, monthly, etc.).
  • Adherence to GN Ethiopia’s security protocols and policies is mandatory.
  • Carry out any other duties as outlined by the senior engineer.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc) in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology and Management, or related field from a recognized university.
  • Experience: 4 years of relevant experience in civil engineering design, site supervision, or project implementation.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and practices.
  • Basic surveying skills and ability to interpret survey data.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Language:

  • Fluency in English is mandatory.
  • Amharic and other local languages are assets.

Desirable Skills & Attributes:

  • Experience working with NGOs or in community development projects.
  • Basic knowledge of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with construction materials and methods common in Ethiopia.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability.
  • Attention to detail and experience in field work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently in the field and as part of a team.
  • Cultural sensitivity and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and results-oriented.

Required Skill: AutoCAD or Civil 3D.

Desired Skill: Ad design, AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
