
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently seeking a highly qualified Human Resource (HR) Officer for our Country Office in Addis Ababa.
Position: HR Officer
Overall Purpose of the Role
As an HR Generalist, you will provide essential support to both the Field and Country offices. You will handle day-to-day HR administrative processes, manage the onboarding of new employees, maintain the ERP system (DRC Dynamics), and oversee payroll and benefits administration. Your goal is to ensure compliance with legal requirements and DRC policies while maintaining high standards of employee record management.
Key Responsibilities
Onboarding & Probation
- Organize orientations for staff hired through the Addis Ababa office.
- Ensure all new staff receive HR orientations on manuals and internal systems.
- Facilitate objective-setting for new hires (Band H and below) during their first week.
- Coordinate with hiring managers to ensure probation evaluations are completed on time.
Systems & Data Management (DRC Dynamics)
- Manage hiring, terminations, and status changes (transfers, promotions) in the ERP system.
- Create and update staff calendars, leave assignments, benefits, and compensation profiles.
- Ensure all HR process checklists are completed accurately within the system.
Payroll, Compensation & Benefits
- Process the staff payroll in collaboration with the Finance department.
- Manage monthly tax and pension deductions and ensure timely pension registration.
- Act as the focal person for staff insurance and prepare monthly reports for auditing.
Contract & Performance Management
- Monitor contract expiration dates and draft extensions or amendments at least one month in advance.
- Support the performance appraisal process and identify learning and development opportunities.
- Assist in training staff on the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality, and Conflict of Interest policies.
Candidate Profile
Experience & Technical Competencies
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in HR management, administration, or organizational development.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in managing compensation, benefits, and using online recruitment systems.
- Software: Excellent skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- NGO Sector: Previous experience with an International NGO (INGO) is highly preferred.
Education & Languages
- Education: BA Degree or Diploma in Human Resource Management or a related field.
- Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic is mandatory.
