The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a international humanitarian NGO operating in Ethiopia since 2009. DRC provides protection, legal aid, peacebuilding, shelter, WASH, and livelihood support to refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and migrants.
Open Positions
1. Protection Officer – Legal
- Duty Station: Jigjiga / Dire Dawa, Ethiopia
- Contract & Band: 12-Month National Contract | Band H2
- Educational Requirements: University Degree in Law from a recognized institution.
- Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of work experience in the legal sector, preferably within humanitarian/migration contexts.
- Key Responsibilities: Conduct rapid legal needs assessments; provide legal counseling, assistance, and information dissemination; map legal aid service providers; build capacity for government stakeholders on migration legal frameworks.
- Languages: Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English; local language required.
2. Peacebuilding Officer
- Duty Station: Jigjiga / Dire Dawa, Ethiopia
- Contract & Band: 12-Month National Contract | Band H2
- Educational Requirements: BSc or MSc Degree in Peace Studies, Law, Conflict Management, Social Studies, or related fields.
- Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of professional experience in conflict and peacebuilding (at least 2 years in an NGO setting).
- Key Responsibilities: Conduct participatory conflict analyses; establish and train peacebuilding committees; facilitate community peace-building dialogue forums; support local CSOs promoting social cohesion.
- Languages: Full proficiency in English and local language.
3. Information Management Officer – Protection
- Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
- Contract & Band: 12-Month National Contract | Band H1
- Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree or qualification in Information Systems, Communications, Social Sciences, or related fields.
- Work Experience: At least 3 years of experience with an NGO or UN agency (at least 2 years in an operational setting).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Excel, MS Access, KoboToolbox, ActivityInfo, Power BI, and data protection protocols.
- Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain protection databases and MEAL information systems; manage confidential data security and backups; process, analyze, and visualize protection data.
4. Protection Officer – Protection Case Management
- Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
- Contract & Band: 12-Month National Contract | Band H1
- Educational Requirements: Degree in Social Work, Law, Sociology, Psychology, or related social science field.
- Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of work experience in case management/humanitarian context, with practical experience along the Eastern Migration Route.
- Key Responsibilities: Manage vulnerable individual protection cases according to DRC SOPs; conduct service mapping and establish referral pathways; facilitate Cash for Protection (C4P); input case data into ActivityInfo.
5. Community Mobilizer
- Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
- Contract & Band: 12-Month National Contract | Band J
- Educational Requirements: Grade 12 Certificate or relevant training.
- Work Experience: Entry-level / Up to 1 year of experience working with vulnerable communities, awareness-raising, or mobilization.
- Key Responsibilities: Conduct community outreach and information sessions for migrants and returnees; engage vulnerable groups (women, girls, persons with disabilities); support community-based protection networks (CBPNs).
6. Protection and Peacebuilding Officer
- Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
- Educational Requirements: University Degree in Law, Peacebuilding, or related field.
- Key Responsibilities: Provide combined legal aid service (counseling, assistance, representation) and peacebuilding dialogue facilitation within the SIDA Mixed Migration project framework.
