About Armauer Hansen Research Institute

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations, seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. Named after Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, the Norwegian physician who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae), AHRI was reorganized under Council of Ministers Regulation No. 376/2016 as a specialized biomedical research, clinical trial, and research capacity-building institution under the Federal Ministry of Health. Over its 50-year history, AHRI has served as a central hub for skill and technology transfer and strategic research partnerships impacting health in Ethiopia and beyond.

Research, Transport, Auditing & Laboratory Career Opportunities

1. Junior Researcher (Quantity: 2)

Conducts laboratory research and molecular assays; requires B.Sc. in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Lab Tech, or Biomedical Sciences (0 years experience, fresh graduates). Minimum CGPA: 3.00 (male) / 2.75 (female). Location: Addis Ababa. (Salary: ETB 27,464 / month)

2. Transport Dispatch Service Head I

Oversees transport dispatch and vehicle allocation; requires BA in Management, Automotive Engineering/Tech, Supply Management, or Economics + 6 years of relevant transport operations experience. Grade XII. Location: Addis Ababa. (Salary: ETB 16,348 / month)

3. Grants Senior Auditor (Quantity: 1)

Performs risk-based financial audits and grant compliance checks; requires Bachelor’s in Accounting, Auditing, Finance, or Business Administration + 10 years of progressive auditing experience (including 3+ years auditing grants or NGOs). Master’s and professional certifications (CIA, CPA, ACCA, etc.) strongly preferred. Location: Addis Ababa.

4. Associate Researcher I (Quantity: 1)

Leads lab research and manuscript preparation; requires M.Sc. in Medical Microbiology, Biotechnology, Lab Tech, or Biomedical Sciences + minimum 2 publication points and advanced PCR/culture expertise. Location: Addis Ababa. (Salary: ETB 59,256 / month)
