Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) Vacancy Announcement


The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is seeking qualified candidates for two finance-related positions based in Addis Ababa. These roles offer an opportunity to contribute to a vital organization committed to human rights and a safe work environment. Both positions are for a one-year contract with the possibility of extension.


Available Positions:

1. Junior Accountant

  • Location: Addis Ababa
  • Reports to: Coordinator, Finance and Budget
  • Salary Range: Gross monthly salary of ETB 9,667 – ETB 10,806, plus ETB 4,320 Housing allowance and ETB 3,300 Transport allowance.
  • Purpose: To support the organization and analysis of financial documents and accounts.
  • Main Duties: Post and process journal entries, track accounts receivable and payable, assist with reconciliations and financial statement preparation, analyze and reconcile bank statements and general ledgers, prepare local compliance reports, review expenses, and act as a vendor liaison for billing discrepancies.
  • Qualifications and Experience:
    • Education: BA degree in Accounting and Finance OR Diploma/Level IV Certificate in Accounting and Finance.
    • Experience: 2 years of experience with a BA degree OR 4 years of relevant experience with a Diploma/Level IV Certificate.
    • Skills: Knowledge of IFMIS is a plus, computer literate, knowledge of Amharic is required, and knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.

2. Finance and Budget Coordinator

  • Location: Addis Ababa
  • Reports to: Director, Finance, and Admin
  • Salary Range: Gross monthly salary of ETB 25,756 – ETB 30,676, plus ETB 12,000 Housing allowance and ETB 3,300 Transport allowance.
  • Purpose: To enhance financial decision-making by developing and implementing financial accounting and reporting systems, and to streamline and monitor administrative services.
  • Main Duties: Implement internal control policies, coordinate financial statement and budget preparation, develop and maintain financial record-keeping, review transactions and authorize ledger accounts, supervise billing and general ledger functions, review reconciliations, monitor cash flow, monitor fixed assets, coordinate internal and external audits, conduct cost-benefit analyses for outsourcing, and maintain administrative workflow.
  • Generic Duties: Facilitate work plan preparation and reporting, identify HR requirements and support subordinate development, lead policy implementation and review, represent the Commission in external relationships, and participate in group decision-making.
  • Qualifications and Experience:
    • Education: MA/BA Degree in Accounting and Finance.
    • Experience: 8 years of relevant experience for a BA degree OR 6 years of relevant experience for an MA degree.
    • Skills: Experience and knowledge of IFMIS and IFRS are required, experience working with various donors is a plus, experience in resource management, computer literate, knowledge of Amharic and English are required, and knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.
