Established locally in 1950, TotalEnergies Marketing Ethiopia S.C. manages an expansive retail network of more than 120 service stations supplying fuels, lubricants, and high-grade specialty products. The affiliate is seeking a high-integrity, seasoned legal professional to navigate regulatory frameworks and safeguard its assets.
Core Accountability Blueprint
The Senior Legal, Insurance & Real Estate Expert operates within a dual reporting environment, collaborating with cross-functional units locally and communicating with global headquarters. The position manages three core pillars:
1. Legal Affairs & Court Advocacy
- Litigation & Representation: Manage and coordinate the company’s legal case pipeline. Defend and represent TotalEnergies before judicial courts, state tribunals, and regulatory authorities.
- Contract Architecture: Structure, draft, and rigorously review diverse commercial agreements, procurement contracts, and high-value facility or retail station lease agreements to align with local statutory frameworks.
- Advisory & Dispute Resolution: Deliver proactive corporate counsel to senior leadership and local business units (including labor law and employee relations matters). Formulate negotiation strategies for out-of-court settlements.
2. Real Estate Asset Compliance
- Land Tenure & Permits: Oversee all property acquisition documentation, verify continuous legitimacy of title deeds, and guarantee compliance with strict urban land usage codes.
- Development Approvals: Coordinate municipal construction permit applications, zoning approvals, and engineering safety documentation across the service station network.
3. Insurance Risk Management & Governance
- Policy Underwriting: Evaluate physical and corporate risks to secure complete asset insurance coverage across all storage depots and stations.
- Broker & Claim Relations: Coordinate with certified insurance brokers and underwriting institutions. Lead investigations and follow-up streams for operational insurance claims to maximize financial recovery.
- Tax Compliance: Oversee the calculation and timely settlement of real estate, insurance-specific, and asset-related municipal taxes or financial obligations.
Applicant Profile & Requirement Metrics
- Educational Background: Minimum of a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Degree) from an accredited university.
- Professional Experience: 5–7 years of progressive experience working as a legal advisor within a structured law firm or as an in-house corporate legal counsel. Direct experience in court litigation is highly advantageous.
- Technical Challenges to Manage: Must show capacity to navigate complex, lengthy judicial pipelines, land-policy constraints, and support operational velocity within a regulated local fuel-pricing framework.
- Languages: Command of professional, corporate written and spoken English.
