Buusaa Gonofaa Microfinance S.C. (BG MFI) is a regulated non-bank microfinance share company licensed under Proclamation No. 40/1996 and supervised by the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE). Originally founded in 1999 by the local NGO Hundee, BG MFI delivers inclusive micro-financial services—including credit, savings, and micro-insurance solutions—to low-income entrepreneurs, smallholder farmers, landless youth, and rural communities across the Oromia Region.

Job Purpose & Key Summary
The Branch Manager I is responsible for administrative oversight, staff leadership, and daily operational excellence across a full-service branch. Key responsibilities include managing loan disbursements, mobilizing savings, maintaining portfolio quality (PAR levels), enforcing internal and regulatory controls, and ensuring the safety of staff, cash, and facilities in alignment with BG MFI’s strategic goals.
Detailed Duties & Responsibilities
- Branch Operations & Portfolio Oversight:
- Direct and supervise day-to-day branch activities, including client onboarding, loan disbursements, repayments, and savings transactions.
- Continuously monitor loan portfolio quality and proactively manage strategies to maintain acceptable Portfolio at Risk (PAR) levels.
- Manage branch cash holdings, physical assets, and infrastructure to ensure maximum security and continuous operational readiness.
- Regulatory Compliance & Internal Controls:
- Enforce strict compliance with National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) directives, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) / Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, and internal audit policies.
- Mobilize public and group savings in compliance with regulatory standards and account management procedures.
- Leadership & Human Resource Management:
- Provide continuous leadership, mentorship, and operational training to Customer Service Officers, Loan Officers, and supporting branch personnel.
- Conduct performance evaluations and foster basic capacity-building initiatives for branch staff.
- Delegate daily operational responsibilities appropriately to staff members.
- Reporting & Community Engagement:
- Compile and submit complete, accurate operational and financial performance reports to the Head Office on time.
- Lead community outreach and client education initiatives to expand the adoption of BG MFI’s financial products and services.
- Perform additional tasks and operational duties assigned by the Immediate Supervisor.
Educational Qualifications & Experience
- Educational Background: Master’s Degree (MA) or Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in Business Administration, Management, Accounting, Economics, Cooperatives, or related fields of study.
- Work Experience: * Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience for MA degree holders OR6 years of relevant experience for BA degree holders.
- Direct professional background in microfinance or banking operations, preferably in branch management, credit appraisal, or portfolio supervision.
- Special Requirement: Full willingness to reside and work in rural or semi-urban communities within the Oromia Region.
Required Skills & Technical Competencies:
- Comprehensive understanding of microfinance branch procedures, credit methodologies, and savings operations.
- Practical knowledge of central bank regulations, AML/KYC directives, and financial compliance.
- Strong customer service focus and client relationship management capabilities.
- Computer literacy (MS Office applications) with solid oral and written communication skills.
