Haile-Manas Academy (HMA) is a private, co-educational, Grade 9-12 boarding school in Debre Birhan, Ethiopia, for motivated secondary students. The school aims to provide a world-class education and develop resilient, independent thinkers and engaged young citizens.

Job Description:

HMA is seeking passionate and compassionate teachers for its Geography and Economics subject areas. The role involves more than just classroom teaching, extending to tutorials, clubs, study hall supervision, field trips, and school-wide activities. Teachers are expected to be role models and active parts of the boarding school community.

Responsibilities:

  • Academic:
    • Design and provide well-thought-out, documented lessons, units, projects, and learning opportunities.
    • Consistently incorporate technology into the students’ learning experience.
    • Monitor, assess, and track each student’s development and provide necessary support.
    • Provide regular and varied student assessments and record results.
    • Develop inquiry-based/project-based learning experiences.
  • Co-Curricular:
    • Lead or support student clubs and service-learning activities.
    • Develop student leadership through these programs.
  • Residential:
    • Advise students academically and socio-emotionally and be a point of contact for families.
    • Be actively involved with the residential curriculum.
    • Help design and supervise community experiences approximately twice a month.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree specific to the teaching position along with a postgraduate diploma in teaching is preferred. A combination of other degrees will also be considered.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience at the secondary school level.
  • Exposure to international secondary school curriculums is preferred.
  • Proficient in email usage, Google Suite, and using technology in the classroom.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and fluent in English.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience. On-campus housing and meals are provided for candidates who meet the criteria for living on campus.
