Call for Applications: Fulbright African Research Scholar Program 2024-2025

The Public Diplomacy Section of the Embassy of the United States of America is pleased to announce the Fulbright African Research Scholar Program (FARSP) for the 2025-2026 academic year. The FARSP is administered by the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), a division of the Institute of International Education, on behalf of the U.S. Department of State.

Program Information:

The FARSP offers two categories of grants: Research grants and Program and Curriculum Development grants.

1. Research Grants:

  • Duration: 3 to 9 months
  • Eligibility: University faculty or research institute professionals with a doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in their fields
  • Preference given to those with at least three years of university teaching experience and a productive scholarly record

2. Program and Curriculum Development Grants:

  • Duration: 3 to 5 months
  • Eligibility: University faculty or administrators with a minimum of a master’s or equivalent graduate degree
  • Proposals should be linked to professional duties and demonstrate how the scholar will use the knowledge gained to develop new courses, curricula, or other academic programs at the home institution

HIV/AIDS Focus:

The FARSP includes a special group of grants for scholars with proposals in HIV/AIDS-related research. Candidates may apply either as research scholars or program and curriculum development scholars.

Interested candidates must submit their applications through the online application system accessible at https://apply.iie.org/fvsp2025.

Additional Information on Eligibility:

  • Applicants should provide a detailed statement describing the proposed project and methodology.
  • A current curriculum vitae, list of publications, dates of availability, and three letters of reference are required.
  • There are no restrictions based on age, gender, faculty rank, or academic discipline.
  • Preference given to proposals promoting mutual understanding between the United States and African countries.
