International Organization for Migration (IOM) invites qualified and competent applicants to apply for the following vacant post:

Position: Intern – Laboratory Technologist

Location: Addis Ababa
Vacancy No: IOM-CFA/0077/24
Type of Appointment: Six months with the possibility of an extension based on funding confirmation

Background:

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all, providing services and advice to governments and migrants. The Movement Operations Units, coordinated under the Division of Resettlement and Movement Management (RMM) in the Department of Operations and Emergencies (DOE) at IOM’s Geneva Headquarters (HQ), are responsible for all aspects of travel for migrants and refugees under IOM’s auspices.

Responsibilities:

Assist the operational activity of laboratory services with respect to Migration Health Assessments (HAP) and other programmes.
Work under the direct supervision of the Senior Laboratory Technologist and the overall supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO).

Skill and Educational Background:

Fresh graduate with a university degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited institution and holds a valid professional license.

Experience:

Good knowledge of computer skills.
Good communication skills, drive for results, flexibility, efficiency, and respect for diversity.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality is mandatory.
Fresh graduate (within one year of graduation).

Skills:

Knowledge of Technical Laboratory skills and workflow.
Very good communication and interpersonal skills.
Computer literate.

Languages:

Thorough knowledge of spoken and written English.
Working knowledge of French is an advantage.
