The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), established in 1935, is one of the oldest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides vital services including emergency response, ambulance and first aid, and disaster risk reduction. The Society is currently seeking a qualified professional for the following position.


Position: Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) Officer

Role Summary: The CVA Officer supports the daily implementation of cash activities, providing field-based support to branches, delivering training, and assisting with capacity-building initiatives. Key responsibilities include market assessments, beneficiary selection, registration, and monitoring to ensure efficient CVA programming.

  • Work Unit: Disaster Preparedness and Response Department.
  • Reports to: CVA Coordinator.
  • Terms of Employment: Contract.
  • Location: Headquarters with frequent travel to field branches.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning & Implementation: Support all CVA activities at HQ and in the field, ensuring integration of Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA) and Protection, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI) approaches.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Track progress against indicators, conduct Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM), and submit regular weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with Finance and Information Management (IM) teams for reconciliation and data management. Maintain partnerships with stakeholders, clusters, and movement-wide partners.
  • Capacity Building: Provide coaching and mentoring to staff and volunteers, and organize training sessions for cash preparedness.

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
    • MA Degree in Social Science, Development Studies, or a field related to Disaster Risk Management.
    • OR a BA Degree in the same fields with equivalent proven experience.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 4 years for Master’s degree holders.
    • Minimum of 6 years for BA degree holders.
    • Extensive field experience in emergency and development cooperation is required, preferably within the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement.

Skills and Competencies

  • Technical expertise in Cash Transfer Programming.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic; knowledge of other local languages is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal, advocacy, and conflict-management skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and experience with donor reporting.
