Action Against Hunger: MEAL Database Manager

Action Against Hunger-USA is recruiting a MEAL Database Manager/Developer for its Country Office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This role is central to the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) department, focusing on designing and optimizing databases for assessments and monitoring tools.


Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Design & Management: Develop and maintain databases for assessments, routine checklists, and M&E tools using systems like MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and DHIS II.
  • Data Analysis & Visualization: Perform quality assurance and transform complex datasets into actionable insights using Power BI, Tableau, or Google Data Studio.
  • System Optimization: Manage the DHIS II platform, including data entry, validation, and routine quality checks.
  • Capacity Building: Identify staff data processing needs and provide training on systems and tools.
  • Reporting: Generate routine and ad hoc reports, ensuring all records comply with indicator protocols.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in database management and optimization, preferably within a humanitarian M&E context.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, SPSS, R, Stata, or Python.
    • Hands-on experience with mobile data collection and visualization platforms.
  • Communication: Fluency in English and Amharic is required; additional local languages are an advantage.
