SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia is seeking a qualified, ethical, and detail-oriented candidate for the following position:

Position & General Specifications

Position: Project Cashier

  • Duty Station / Location: Borena, Ethiopia
  • Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

The Project Cashier is responsible for receiving payments made to SOS CVE, depositing cash and checks into bank accounts, managing petty cash, processing authorized disbursements, and maintaining accurate financial records for project implementation.

  • Payment & Cash Handling: Check, count, and receive payments; issue official receipts; effect authorized cash and check payments.
  • Banking Operations: Deposit daily cash and check receipts into bank accounts; maintain custody of check pads, receipt books, and payment documents.
  • Petty Cash Management: Maintain and reconcile petty cash funds; process project disbursements against approved vouchers; prepare replenishment requests.
  • Compliance & Statutory Payments: Follow up on timely remittance of withholding tax, pension, and income tax; process utility bill payments (water, electric, telephone) upon approval.
  • Financial Reporting & Internal Controls: Perform periodic cash counts; reconcile physical cash with recorded balances; assist in implementing internal financial controls and audit procedures.

Qualifications & Job Requirements

  • Educational Qualification:
    • Diploma / Level IV: In Accounting, Finance, or related business discipline (requires at least 4 years of direct cashier experience).
    • Bachelor’s Degree (BA): In Accounting, Finance, or related business discipline (requires at least 2 years of direct experience).
  • Work Experience & Technical Skills:
    • Minimum of 2 years (for BA) or 4 years (for Diploma) of direct experience in cashiering, petty cash management, and financial record-keeping.
    • Prior experience working within International NGOs or humanitarian project environments.
    • Hands-on experience with cash disbursement humanitarian projects, cash balance reconciliations, and financial reporting.
    • Proficiency in accounting software (Dynamics 365 / D365) and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Fluency/ability to communicate effectively in the local language relevant to the program location (Oromiffa fluency is highly advantageous).
