Primo Homes is seeking to recruit a qualified, dynamic, and detail-oriented professional for the following position at its head office in Addis Ababa:
Position: Import Export Assistant
- Place of Work: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
- Employment Type: Full-Time
- Experience Level: Junior to Mid-Level (1–3 years)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare, verify, organize, and systematically maintain all company import and export documentation in strict compliance with Ethiopian customs and government regulations.
- Apply for import and export permits through the Electronic Single Window (ESW) system and follow up to ensure timely approval.
- Draft, process, and review critical trade documents including: Proforma Invoices, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading (B/L), Air Waybills (AWB), Truck Waybills (TWA), Certificates of Origin, Insurance Certificates, Inspection Certificates, and Letters of Credit (L/C).
- Facilitate Djibouti Free Zone document processing, clearing, and logistics billing.
- Ensure total alignment with trade laws, regulations, and tax requirements established by the Ethiopian Customs Commission, Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI), and the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE).
2. Logistics & Shipment Coordination
- Liaise and coordinate efficiently with international suppliers, freight forwarders, shipping lines, local customs clearing agents, and financial institutions to ensure seamless cargo movement.
- Track inbound and outbound shipments, providing regular, transparent status updates and delivery timelines to the management team.
- Monitor, analyze, and optimize import costs, including freight charges, port handling fees, storage costs, customs duties, and demurrage penalties.
- Address potential transit delays proactively to guarantee the timely arrival of materials and products.
- Maintain clean logistics archives and record systems for regulatory audits and reference purposes.
3. Banking & Foreign Exchange Operations
- Coordinate with commercial banks to secure foreign exchange approvals.
- Process trade settlement instruments including Letters of Credit (L/C), Cash Against Documents (CAD), advance payments, or documentary collections in accordance with NBE foreign exchange directives.
- Ensure all banking files are fully completed, reconciled, and submitted without discrepancy.
4. Reporting & Operational Support
- Maintain up-to-date tracking databases for all shipments and international supply chain pipelines.
- Prepare periodic reports from operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and key opportunities for logistics cost savings.
- Provide general cross-functional assistance to the Import/Export Manager or Logistics Head to ensure smooth operations.
Job Requirements & Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, International Trade, or a closely related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 to 3 years of proven professional experience handling import-export operations, customs clearance coordination, or corporate logistics in Ethiopia.
