
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia, is seeking qualified and highly motivated professionals for three key contract positions based in Addis Ababa.
Position 1: WASH Coordinator
- Work Unit: Health and WaSH Department
- Reports To: EC2R Health & WASH Coordinator
- Location: Addis Ababa (with frequent travel to field sites)
- Employment Type: Contract (Salary per organizational scale)
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical design, planning, budgeting, and execution of the EC2 WASH project activities.
- Supervise the construction and rehabilitation of water supply systems, latrines, and health facility WASH infrastructures.
- Ensure interventions comply with national guidelines and humanitarian Sphere standards, mainstreaming gender and protection.
- Coordinate with regional branches, local government offices, and the humanitarian WASH cluster.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Nursing, Health Promotion, Epidemiology, or a related health field.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years (for Master’s) or 9 years (for Bachelor’s), including at least 3 to 5 years of specific coordinator or managerial experience in humanitarian WASH programming.
- Assets: Prior experience with solar-powered pumping systems and a background within the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement are highly desirable.
Position 2: Public Health Coordinator
- Work Unit: Health and WaSH Department
- Reports To: Health and WaSH Coordinator
- Location: Addis Ababa (HQ-based with frequent monitoring travel to Amhara, Oromia, Benishangul-Gumuz, and Tigray field locations)
- Employment Type: Contract (Salary per organizational scale)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and quality assurance for public health interventions under the EC2R Programme in emergency and recovery contexts.
- Plan and monitor community-based disease prevention, outbreak preparedness, and risk communication initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with the PMEAL team to analyze health data, map public health gaps, and integrate community feedback loops.
- Liaison with the Ministry of Health, Regional Health Bureaus, and UN agencies to avoid duplication of services.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Nursing, Health Promotion, Epidemiology, or a related health field.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years (for Master’s) or 9 years (for Bachelor’s) of experience in public health implementation within emergency or resilience frameworks. Must have 3 to 5 years of direct coordination experience.
- Assets: Previous experience handling donor-funded initiatives, especially FCDO-funded projects, is a major advantage.
Position 3: Head Chef
- Work Unit: Centre of Capacity Development for Humanitarian Services
- Reports To: Catering and Lodging Manager
- Location: Addis Ababa
- Employment Type: Contract
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize kitchen workflow, manage culinary equipment, assign tasks to kitchen helpers, and manage daily menus.
- Monitor food preparation against established standards of culinary excellence, ensuring the quality, portioning, presentation, and correct temperature of every dish.
- Follow up on sanitation regulations, manage waste systems, and ensure absolute kitchen cleanliness.
- Maintain transitory store stocks, track material consumption, and contribute to maximizing overall food cost-efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s (Second/First) degree in Food Preparation, Cooking, or Culinary Management.
- Experience: Minimum 6 years (for Postgraduate) or 8 years (for Undergraduate) of verified work experience in professional food preparation.
- Skills: Basic computer skills for stock tracking and menu documentation.
