Position Title: Senior Risk Management and Compliance Officer

Meklit Microfinance Institution S.C. was established under Proclamation No. 40/96 to deliver robust financial and non-financial services to low-income populations, with a foundational focus on empowering women across urban and rural Ethiopia. Licensed in February 2000, the institution is owned by seventy individual shareholders alongside its primary institutional shareholder, the local NGO Progynist, which holds a 75% stake. Meklit MFI is seeking a highly analytical professional to join its executive defense framework at the head office.

Core Responsibilities & Technical Mandates

  • Risk Planning & Architecture: Draft and maintain the comprehensive enterprise risk management plan designed to systematically identify, measure, control, and monitor active financial and operational risk vectors.
  • Technique Development: Design and implement localized risk identification models and technical matrices optimized for microfinance operations.
  • Risk Assessment & Ranking: Conduct periodic risk assessments to quantify and rank vulnerabilities, laying the strategic foundation for institutional mitigation pathways.
  • Operational Risk Reporting: Formulate precise structural reports on operational risks to shield the institution from processing failures, internal or external human error, system glitches, and disruptive external events.
  • Asset Liability Management (ALM) Security:
    • Analyze and present regular reviews on the institution’s liquidity risk to ensure cash flows are protected and Meklit consistently fulfills its immediate capital obligations.
    • Audit and present reports on interest rate risk to verify that deposit payouts and loan yields are perfectly balanced to cover financial costs, absorb inflation, and maintain business sustainability.
  • Mitigation & Follow-Up: Deliver actionable mitigation recommendations accompanied by strict enforcement timelines. Systematically track and report on how various operational departments carry out their assigned risk-monitoring duties.

Applicant Profile & Selection Criteria

Required Education & Training:

  • B.A. Degree or Level VI Certification in Accounting, Accounting & Finance, Economics, Business Management, or closely matching financial disciplines.

Professional Experience Metrics:

  • Minimum of 5 years (for B.A. Holders) or 7 years (for Level VI Certificate Holders) of direct, progressive experience working inside a commercial bank, microfinance institution, insurance firm, or related financial services entity.

Technical & Interpersonal Skill Matrix:

  • Proven technical proficiency in calculating risk metrics and the ability to interface effectively with management and compliance panels at all organization tiers.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to distill complex financial exposure data into digestible executive briefs.
  • Basic computer literacy and software application proficiency.
  • A firm, demonstrable alignment with teamwork dynamics and corporate gender equality initiatives.
