United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA): Human Resources Assistant (G6)

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is seeking a Human Resources Assistant for its Human Resources Management Section in Addis Ababa. This is a Temporary Job Opening at the G6 level, focusing on providing experienced support for staff benefits, entitlements, and personnel actions.


Key Responsibilities

The incumbent supports the Administration and Conference Management Division through the following duties:

  • Contract Administration: Manages onboarding for selected candidates, issues Letters of Appointment, and monitors contract expirations and extensions.
  • Staff Movements: Processes administrative actions for temporary and permanent staff movements, including inter-agency agreements and offboarding/separations.
  • Benefits and Entitlements:
    • Administers entitlements related to dependents, travel (home leave, education grants), and insurance.
    • Reviews and approves time and attendance requests (sick leave, parental leave) in the Umoja system.
    • Provides guidance to staff members regarding HR rules and standard documentation requirements.
  • Reporting and Data Management:
    • Extracts and analyzes data from Umoja to create dashboards, analytical summaries, and routine reports.
    • Maintains HR records and tracking tools to ensure data integrity.
    • Assists in special projects and “clean-up” exercises to reconcile inconsistencies in HR records.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Desirable: Training in human resources/administration and knowledge of UN HR rules and the Umoja system.

Work Experience

  • Standard Requirement: A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in human resources or administrative services.
  • Degree Offset: The requirement is reduced to five (5) years for candidates possessing a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s) or higher.

Languages

  • Required: Proficiency in English.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of French.
